Air India beat East Bengal 2-0 in I-league

East Bengal's dismal performance continued as Air India stunned the local favourites 0-2 in the ONGC I-league at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan on Sunday. This was East Bengal's third defeat in their last four I-League matches. Earlier, they lost both their AFC Cup matches and then drew with Mahindra United in the the I-league. With this win, Air India share the eighth spot in the league table along with East Bengal on 21 points. The Red and Yellow brigade, without injured Baichung Bhutia, made the first attack in the fourth minute but Yakubu's attempt off Rennedy Singh cross went narrowly wide. Contrary to the scoreline, Air India took a little time to take control of the match and forged ahead in the 32nd minute through Kailash. Stung by the goal, East Bengal made continuous attempts on the rival goal but failed to find the back of the net once. On one occasion Yakubu failed to beat a lonely Air India custodian Arnab Das Sharma in the 58th minute. And then Rennedy Singh was denied by a Das Sharma in the 72nd minute. After surviving the onslaughts, Air India doubled their lead in the 76th minute through Ogpara's powerful right-footer. After Mohun Bagan, East Bengal also faced disappointing defeat in the 16th round of I-League against Air India. Today Air India overpowered the Kolkata side with 2-0 scoreline. This defeat no doubt endangered the position of the Red and Golds in the League table.
