Seldom has the situation arisen, when the fate of the match between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan has nothing to do with the prospect of one of the teams. Currently, Mohun Bagan are 6 points ahead of East Bengal, after playing 1 match less than what East Bengal played and Chirag are 4 points ahead of East Bengal after playing 1 match less than what East Bengal played. Therefore it may be very much difficult for East Bengal to finish in the 2nd. spot in the table even after coming out victorious in the match of 24th. The matter may worsen, if Mohammedan SC are somehow able to overtake East Bengal to pull us down to the 4th. spot in the table.

Overall performance of East Bengal throughout this year is not only disappointing but also awful. Supporters had to see our team starting the season with 4 consecutive losses in a row and many a downfall thereafter. But after that our team lifted the Federation Cup on 3rd. January of this year, and the triumph was beyond the expectations of even the most optimistic supporters. During the course of becoming the champion team of India, we defeated our arch-rival by a brace on the last day of the previous year . But eventually our team again came in the frustrating track with a no-win-run of 14 matches and exhibited dismal performance in the AFC Cup and I-League.


But as fer as the match against Mohun Bagan is concerned, statistics, seasonal form etc. do not count. Red and Gold jerseys always flash and gear up seeing the Green and Maroon jerseys as the oppositions. Many a times, East Bengal turned the table beating Mohun Bagan with a weak line-up. Three of our regular staff Alvito, Abhra and Okpara will have to miss the derby due to the suspensions on them but I think the players taking their places will do no less good to provide a scope to our supporters lighting torch in the gallery in the evening summer of Yuba Bharati Krirangan. Our coach Ridder may get the dividend, fielding the players in their known and used places rather than swapping the positions of the palyers and experimenting too much witrh them. And we will like to see Bhaichung along-with Sanju Pradhan in the field right from the word ‘go’.


My heart waits for the moment, when we will light torch in the gallery of YBK, relishing the pale faces of the supporters of Mohun Bagan.
